My OpenClaw Bot Built an Entire Hackathon Project - And I Didn't Write a Line of Code!

Last week I set up the OpenClaw AI agent, and this week I put it to work building a hackathon project! I built and shipped a working app called PayStream, live, without doing any coding myself. The whole thing was done by chatting to my bot in Telegram, and it's now entered in the Colosseum Agent Hackathon on Solana.

What is PayStream?

PayStream is a pay-per-second video streaming project. Picture a live streamer, maybe someone playing a game or doing a show like this one. People who subscribe to the stream pay the host a tiny amount every second they watch, for example 0.001 USDC per second. The rate is totally changeable.

The interesting part is how it gets to $0 gas micropayments for viewers. Under the hood it uses MagicBlock's Ephemeral Rollup tech on top of Solana:

  1. The host hits start stream and an ephemeral rollup spins up
  2. The host pays the Solana fee to open the rollup (roughly half a SOL)
  3. Viewers connect their Solana wallet and stream USDC to the host with no fees at all
  4. When the host closes the stream, the rollup is torn down and the setup money goes back to the wallet that opened it

In the demo I charged 6 cents for a short stream, then refreshed and ran it again so you could see the logs. The rollup gets established on Solana devnet, and there's a separate MagicBlock devnet cluster in the explorer that shows the rollup activity.

Why Does This Matter?

Gas fees are a massive hurdle for regular users. With PayStream the end user doesn't pay gas, they just connect a wallet and send stablecoin in really small amounts. The host covers the rollup setup cost and gets it back at the end. I want to test going even lower than 0.001 USDC per second too.

I also added a bunch of questions and answers to the demo site, because I know you're going to have some. Try it yourself:

How the Bot Built It

This is the bit I'm most excited about. MagicBlock has an open source GitHub with lots of examples, so I got my OpenClaw bot to read all that code and then build my project from it.

If you don't believe me, check the GitHub repo. The workflow was literally me on Telegram saying things like "hey, fix this up", "this doesn't work, go fix this" and "add this in". The bot has access to GitHub, so it pushes little updates to the repo, and Vercel auto deploys every change. Once that's set up, everything is fully automated and I'm just chatting to my bot.

Quick update on my setup too. In last week's video I ran OpenClaw inside a VM, but I've since moved it to a cloud instance inside Docker. Let me know if you want a video on how to set that up!

Vote for PayStream!

The Colosseum Agent Hackathon is all about building projects using AI, with $100,000 USD in total prizes. When I recorded this there was one day left.

So please, please, please vote for USDC PayStream so I can win some prizes and keep building! 😉

It's wild that a personal AI assistant can go from reading example code to a live, deployed app with nothing but chat messages. If you want to learn how to set up your own agent stack like this, come join us at liberati.life. Good luck and happy BUIDL'ing!
